Estate Planning

What is Estate Planning?

Believe it or not, everyone has an estate. If you own anything- a home, checking or savings accounts, you have an estate that will require legal steps after your passing. At that time, you want to be able to control how your estate is divided and while ensuring the protection of your loved ones even after you are gone. That is what estate planning is all about.

Estate planning is making a plan in advance and naming exactly to whom you want your possessions to go and naming who will be in charge of carrying these plans out after you pass away. This may include:

  • Guidance for family members who may be irresponsible with money.
  • Protecting your children from divorce or creditors.
  • Naming a guardian to be responsible for minor children.
  • Minimizing tax and court costs.

Though this will of course be a difficult time for your loved ones, estate planning will ease the burden on them and provide a seamless process that will allow them to remain protected, after you are gone.
